VIP for a Week

Its been quite a while since I blogged, 3 months to be exact. Like hell...3 MONTHS!!! But those who know me more personally also know that I have sent mails long enough to qualify for a blog. So people, I do blog. I DO blog. Believe me, I am a blogger. (Phew…phew…some justification, better get convinced for I have convinced myself so.)

First Day, First Job

Date: Aug, 29, 2005. Time: 5:00AM

I got up from the cozy bed of Kavitha Residency (Room 209#) with lots of expectations and anticipations. Today was going to be a turning point in my life. First day at Infosys! First day of my career! A new start…a new beginning!!! I turned around and saw my roommate Aekta J Shah on the second cozy bed. She was my schoolmate, my collegemate and now we are to begin our journey as colleagues. She seemed to have suffered the same butterflies in her stomach last night, the way I did which was evident from the look that she returned me. How glad I was to have her for a company! A known face from my known world! I felt a sense of security in what seemed like an uncertain future! We both did a lot of speaking the for the past few days, discussing ‘how-our-first-day-was-going-to-be’ but this morning when we woke up, there was a single smile that said it all “Lets have a nice day buddy!” We got ready, each of us spending enough of time in front of the mirror trying to dress ourselves as perfect software professionals. I still remember us debating on what would be appropriate to wear on the first day to make a big, yet a smart impression.

My code for the day! Unfortunately, today finds my mood so damped and fortunately today finds me with not much work. (though I might be assigned some when my superiors see this. :-)) I logged into MSN after quite some time and a number of ‘Long time no see’ windows popped up. Chatting ‘sweet nothings’ with friends is interesting but for how long? ‘Sweet nothings’ because there really is nothing is tiresome. I was tired! I logged out of MSN.

Monsoonal Memories

Thud……thud… …It drizzled.
Thud…thud…thud…It poured.
THUD THUD THUD THUD…IT RAINED!

I ran out to the balcony to remove the clothes that I had left to dry that morning. The tea pot was steaming and screaming on the stove seeking my attention. “Okay, okay, I am coming…” I turned off the gas and filled my tea cup. Plop! The power went out. “Oh no! What a day!” murmuring to myself, I lighted the candle and collapsed on my crouch. The flickering flame was dancing to the whooshing wind outside threatening to go off at any moment. Staring at it silently and sipping my tea, I took a deep breath. The scent of earth filled my nostrils…that smell…that chill…hmmm…its monsoon again! Covering myself in a cozy blanket, relishing the comfort and tranquility, I did what I usually do – dwell over fond memories. Outside, it was still raining…thud…thud...thud...thud…

Systematic Analysis of Love

Love is a feeling……

Love is electric……
Love is a waste of time……
Love is a hormonal cocktail……
Love is life……

Different people with different definitions of love! These wordings look good on Valentine’s Day greeting cards. They sound good when our cine heroes proclaim their undying love for their sweethearts with all plausible facial expressions (or sometimes animations:-)). But personally, what is love? Over many decades, love has been the base for innumerable songs, stories, sonnets, etc, etc. Are the poets fond of love or is it love that has made them poets? Funny discussion and obviously an inconclusive one! It is akin to a maze that twists and turns into many circuitous routes but invariably lead to a dead end at every other corner. Yet, any piece on love, no matter how sensible or silly, I am sure would make an interesting read and even more when personified as a living entity. It is this belief that has driven me into making this article on love.

The Window Corner

“Hey…Its my place, I came first.”
“NO…I came first, move out…Take your bag from here.”
“I WON’T, U MOVE!!!...”
“I WON’T EITHER, U GO!!”…….…….

Familiar, isn’t it? Yes, it is a very familiar exchange between two kids in a primary school fighting for the seat by the window corner in the school bus. I used to when I was a kid. For that matter, I love window corners even today. I happened to occupy one such window corner on a fairly long journey and willingly let my thoughts go astray…

Amaragandhian Commandments

  1. Never underestimate the potential of anybody. You will never know what resides in whom. There is a talent in every individual and there are things to learn from each one. Keep your ears open to suggestions and opinions but let the decision be yours.

  2. Always take success to your heart. That is, rejoice over you success but limit it to a day or two, else pride will get into your head and that’s the first step to downfall.

  3. Take your failures to your head. Yes, learn from your mistakes. Everything that happens is for good when you try to learn from them. All hardships will come to pass. I’ve heard someone telling this “Wheel keeps rolling…you’ll be at the top and bottom alternatively…nothing is permanent”. So, never show off…!!!

Controversial Conversation between me and myself

“Good Morning Arjun, Good Morning Mayank(s)…Good Morning Vishwas.” My day started very normally as usual but unlike the other working days, there was a difference. Today was relatively calm and peaceful. Half the office on a holiday. I gave a longing sigh thinking of all my friends who had an off today…they’d still be in bed covered from head to foot with their sheets, sleeping lazily under the fan…Oh no, why is it a working day for me today??!!! I sat to scan the newspaper to distract myself from my thoughts and to bring it back to working form (that is, cajoling myself saying “Archu, be a good girl and start working” :)). But all those thoughts were pushed aside when my eye caught up with the headlines.

Symphony with Seetha

Tring…Tring…Tring…my alarm started jarring…half asleep and half awake, I rubbed my eyes to look at the time…it was 5:30am…dammit…who’d like to be disturbed that early and that too on a Saturday…cursing, I turned to sleep again but before sleep could take over me, the stunning realization of why I had set my alarm the previous night shook me up…we had planned a picnic to Hangumangundi waterfalls!!!!…With that motivation, I got up and got ready. Twelve of us had decided to meet in front of Infosys office at 6:30am but as it always happens, it was a little delayed and we were on our way by 7:30 a.m.in a Tempo Traveler.
